Custom PTFE & Teflon® Valve Seats
Advanced Industrial is a leading manufacturer of high-performance, precision-machined PTFE valve seats. Designed for reliability in demanding environments, our valve seats provide superior sealing performance, chemical resistance, and operational longevity. We machine custom valve seats for a wide range of industries and applications, from standard designs to complex geometries requiring tight tolerances.
What Are Valve Seats?
A valve seat is a critical component within a valve assembly that provides the sealing surface for the plug, ball, or disc. When the valve is closed, the moving component presses firmly against the valve seat, shutting off the flow of liquids or gases through the system. The effectiveness of this seal is paramount to preventing leaks and ensuring process integrity.
PTFE, commonly known by the trade name Teflon®, is an ideal material for valve seats due to its unique combination of properties. Its extremely low coefficient of friction ensures smooth valve operation, while its broad chemical inertness and wide operating temperature range make it suitable for the most aggressive and demanding applications.
PTFE Materials for Valve Seats
The choice of material is crucial for valve seat performance. While standard Virgin Grade PTFE is excellent for many uses, filled grades offer enhanced mechanical properties like improved wear resistance, reduced creep (cold flow), and higher compressive strength. We machine valve seats from various PTFE grades to meet specific application requirements.
Material Grade | Key Properties & Characteristics | Common Valve Seat Applications |
Virgin Grade PTFE | Excellent chemical resistance, lowest coefficient of friction, FDA compliant. Softer than filled grades. | Food & beverage, medical, pharmaceutical, and applications requiring high purity and broad chemical compatibility. |
Glass-Filled PTFE | Enhanced compressive strength and wear resistance. Reduced creep and deformation under load. Good chemical stability, except against strong alkalis and Hydrofluoric Acid (HF). | Water, steam, and chemical processing. Ideal for higher pressure and temperature applications where durability is key. (Client to confirm suitability against HF). |
Carbon-Filled PTFE | Excellent compressive strength and load resistance. Good thermal conductivity and wear resistance. Electrically conductive. | High-speed dynamic applications. Suitable for non-oxidizing chemicals and water. Not suitable for abrasive conditions. |
Bronze-Filled PTFE | Greatly improved compressive strength and wear resistance. High thermal conductivity helps dissipate heat in high-speed applications. | Hydraulic systems and applications requiring high mechanical strength and resistance to deformation under load. (Client to confirm chemical compatibility limitations, e.g., with acids/alkalis). |
